To serve the poor in the name of Christ is not a game. It is not play-acting, nor is it a child’s play. It means constant pain, discomfort, humiliation, suffering and sacrifice. It means the CROSS.

 FATHER AL SCHWARTZ

Father Al’s Journey to Sainthood

Father Aloysius Schwartz is now one step closer to sainthood as Pope Francis declared him VENERABLE, a title given to those who lived a life of heroic virtue. This is the second step toward Father Al one day being declared a Saint by the Catholic Church.

“All the treasures, which the earth has to offer, are temporary. Our hearts are made for what is eternal…”

“In prayer, we gather the strength to overcome all the evil and bad habits in our life…”

“Prayer is for our own benefit. In prayer, by prayer and through prayre, we obtain the gifts, graces and blessings of God…”

Who is Father Al?

“Father Al”, as he was known to those he comforted, helped the poor and he lived a life of poverty. He was ordained a diocesan priest in 1957, and assigned to Busan, Korea. His was a life of love for children in need. While he was a seminarian at the Catholic University of Louvain, he made many visits to the Shrine of the Virgin of the Poor, at Banneux, in Western Belgium. This is the shrine where our Blessed Mother said, “I am the Virgin of the Poor. I came to relieve suffering.”

Father Al felt a deep inner peace and confirmation of his constant desire to live in total poverty, and resolved to dedicate himself to the Virgin of the Poor.

He founded the Sisters of Mary, and Korean Relief, which later became Asian Relief and is now the World Villages for Children.  His work spread to the Philippines, Mexico, Guatemala, Brazil, Honduras, and now in Tanzania. He attributed the glory of all his accomplishments to the Mother of God. His last three years were full of pain and suffering from ALS disease. But even in a wheelchair he continued to fulfill his duties with joy.

He was buried at the Sisters of Mary Girlstown in Silang, Cavite, the Philippines.

Do You Need A Miracle In Your Life?

Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God.”

(Philippians 4:6)

The following prayer is being used around the world, asking Father Al to intercede with God for the petitions of those who need a miracle.

INTERCESSORY PRAYER

Almighty, ever-living God, giver of all good gifts, You have filled Venerable Father Al with an ardent love for You and for souls. You have inspired him to dedicate his life to relieve the suffering of the orphans, the abandoned, the sick and the poor, especially the youth, which he did with all humility and courage until the end of his life.

May his holy life of love and service to the poor be recognized by the Church through his beatification and canonization.

For your honor and glory, we pray that the life of Venerable Father Al be an inspiration for us in striving for perfection in the love of God and service to others.

I ask you to bestow upon me, through the intercession of Father Al: (Tell God, through Father Al, the favor that you request.)

I ask this through our Lord, Jesus Christ, your Son, and the maternal aid of Mary, the Virgin of the Poor. Amen.

Our Father … Hail Mary … Glory Be …
